MARKETING IN

SMALL ORGANIZATIONS

In my area in seems as if there are many non-profits, many small organizations, churches all around. While I know their message, I cannot help but only think of what their potential might be if they marketed themselves a bit better. Most small organizations that were researched were found with websites, if a website was found at all, with cluttered, out-dated content on out-dated templates. I am not going to name any of the organizations out of courtesy but you can do the research and look for yourself. Their message, mission, and vision is excellent yet they do not know how to get it out effectively. Small organizations that were researched were more likely to have a Facebook page and seemed to have mastered the art of putting a Facebook post from time to time to promote upcoming events within the organiztion. Many of the organizations had a logo but not a brand. For example, the logo probably only exists in small JPEG format (that's bad in logo talk) and would look bad on a t-shirt. However, they cannot be criticized too much because they are doing the best they can do. How does the small organization market like a large organization though? Check out the next page.

However, I did find one organization that I love their marketing. Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

In Hall County, I am glad to know the director of our area FCA and also one of the FCA missionaries. FCA is a large, national organization but within each area it seems as if it is only a small organization. While the local FCA is in charge of marketing their own upcoming events, the national level of FCA doesn't leave the locals hanging. They provide them with FCA resources in which they provide all of the FCA logos and any other FCA artwork that a local FCA might need to add to their promotional materials. This year not only was I able to intern at Chestnut Mountain but I was able to create two flyers for Hall County's FCA for upcoming summer camps. Because the national level of FCA had provided resources of the logos, I was able to create a visually appealing, effective flyer for the local FCA, a small organization in a way.

Marketing in small organizations has a reputation in which it known they are the ones that are going to have the bad logos and websites, It is time to change that and let them compete on the larger scale. They have a message that needs to be heard as well.
